10 Massive Actions to Build Confidence
Whatever your dream may be, taking massive action can help you achieve it. This means stepping out of your comfort zone and putting a great deal of effort into your progress. Without massive action, you can’t gain the kind of momentum that you need to make a lasting change.Perhaps you want to learn how to build confidence in the workplace, or you want to improve your self-image.
Below are just some action steps you can take to be more confident in yourself.
1. Appreciate Small Wins
Set interim goals and then take the time to celebrate when you reach your goal. These rest stops are an important part of your journey and each win will contribute to your personal growth journey.
2. Weed Out Negative Thoughts
Negative thinking can become a habit. For example, it’s easy to convince yourself that you’re not a people person. As a result, you’ll feel awkward when it’s time to interact with people, even though you have plenty of valuable things to say. Learn to recognize and avoid negative thinking and try to keep away from conversations that are focused on complaining.
3. Practice Gratitude
Your confidence should be based on an honest assessment of your strengths. But your strengths don’t just exist in a vacuum, they are impacted by the people around you. You’ll be more confident in yourself if you take some time to acknowledge and appreciate the positive influences in your life. Allow yourself to feel grateful to the people whose love and support helps you stay on track. Try writing three things you’re grateful for per day, or if you find it difficult to find the time to write, try a voice memo on your way back from work. Set up a time to consistently do so to practice making this routine a habit.
4. Start Seeing Yourself as an Equal to Others
Many of us are taught from early childhood to belittle ourselves. Instead of learning true self-knowledge, we’re raised to compare ourselves to others.
But to improve your self-esteem, you need to change this habit. Stop comparing your achievements to the achievements of those around you. Instead, recognize and value your own potential and accept that you’re just as worthy of success as everyone else is.
5. Failure Is Always an Option
The fear of failure robs us of our confidence. But you don’t have to succumb to this fear. Instead, ask yourself, what do I really have to lose? This check-in will make it far easier to approach problems confidently and without second-guessing.
6. Visualize Your Victories
On the other hand, you want to avoid defeatism. When you know exactly what you want to achieve, you should keep your focus on reaching your goal. Imagining your future success will help you make bold decisions. Create a vision board with your images and words of your ideal future or try visualizing about your goals in the morning or before a big presentation. See your goals coming to life. If you’ve never tried visualizing before, find some useful tips here.
7. Act Confident to Become Confident
There are a few simple changes you can make in your demeanor. For example, you can improve your body language and start speaking more slowly. These methods can help you appear confident even on days when you feel anything but. I love Amy Cuddy’s TED Talk on body language to help you literally ‘fake it til you make it.”
8. Learn to Say No
Do you struggle with setting firm boundaries? If people find out that they can easily talk you into things, it becomes increasingly difficult to stand your ground. Practice polite rejections and you’ll become better at all social interactions. I have a few more tips on how to do this in my blog post, The Ultimate Guide to Saying No.
9. Take Care of Your Body Too
Physical exercise can improve your self-esteem for several reasons. It gives you a chance to unwind and stop worrying about work. It also impacts your mood and your focus, and it empowers you to go through with daunting decisions. To maintain a good self-image, you should also take care of your other physical needs, such as eating and sleeping.
10. Reach Out to Help Others
Kindness is its own reward. Tony Robbins says, “When you give back to other people and your community, it reminds you what you’re made for.” Focusing on the needs of others has a way of motivating you to do more than you thought possible. You feel the benefits immediately. You become more productive. You find creative solutions to problems. You find strength when you’re exhausted. If you use your time and skills to help others out, you’ll end up radiating confidence.
