Finding your Confidence in 3 Steps

Growing up, I was shy and timid. As a little girl, I feared speaking up in class. And afraid I didn’t truly belong, I spent most of my lunch breaks eating in the bathroom or tucked away in the newspaper room “working.” I knew that if I wanted to tap into my full potential, I had to step outside of my comfort zone.

I began to read books on confidence, networking, and success to find my true self and now I want to share what I learned with you!

The following are 3 of the techniques I used to support my growth.

1. Identifying my strengths

  1. Take an inventory of your day.

  2. Where in your day did you feel the most energetic and passionate?

  3. What have you been told in the past that you are good at?

  4. Find evidence in your life that makes this statement true. This is your strength.

2. Focus on positive affirmations

  1. Make a list of negative thoughts I want to dismiss,

  2. Prioritize the list to identify what to work on

  3. Write a counter-argument to your negative thought 4. create your affirmation using your counter-argument and repeat your affirmation daily for at least 5 minutes 6. find evidence that proves this negative thought to be untrue.

3. Embracing my “power pose”

I learned from Amy Cuddy, social psychologist and public speaker, that the simple act of standing in a posture of confidence, even when you aren’t feeling it, can boost feelings of confidence, and have an actual impact on your chances for success.

It was divine because it was exactly you. It was the very best you—the strongest most generous you.
